Thanks for answering my question. That is what I ended up doing just to get the 1040X column A to be correct. It seems there should be a way in the software to select the date of the return that is correct for column A. When you populate Column A manually, you get a diagnostic that you won't be able to electronically file the amendment, but you can electronically file it. The diagnostic is just a warning but one that you can ignore. All seems to have gone fine with manually entering amounts in the software. Thanks again for responding!! I appreciate your help.
