Duncan, CPA Modified Aug 22, 2023 3 min read We all keep hearing that tax and accounting professionals need to provide more advisory services, but what does that really look like? What does it mean? How do you even start to make that kind of a change? In my session, “Activate and accelerate your practice into advisory,” at QuickBooks® Connect, Dec. 7-9, 2022, I’ll help you to start answering some of these questions. I will be providing a high-level view of the curriculum that I teach in my Chief Proactive Advisor program to get you started on your journey to a more fulfilling career. This is NOT a session where you learn a single advisory “trick” to roll out. This is an exploration of what it takes to make a paradigm shift in how you move into the next phase of your career and business. In this session, I’ll share my process for making large changes in one’s firm and life. My process was essential to effectively switching my highly successful tax preparation-based firm into a full advisory firm that has greater profitability, better work-life balance, happier employees, and more satisfied clients. What would it feel like to take a vacation on spring break? What would happen if you made more than 5X per client without working late all the time? Where will you be in 5 years if you work less, make more money, and have happier clients? The key takeaways from this session will include: How to identify, structure, and implement the transformational shifts you need to create the advisory service practice you want and your clients need. Learn about the client advisory practice model that Sean Duncan created to shift his practice from a predominately tax firm to a comprehensive client advisory practice. Hands-on strategies for transforming your current tax, accounting, and bookkeeping practice into a full-fledged, comprehensive advisory services firm to generate significant profits, productivity, and more work-life balance. OK, yeah … but what’s unique about THIS session from all the other advisory sessions you have attended before? The secret is: The change is ALL about you and NOT your clients. My process begins with investigating what YOU want out of life, what YOU want out of your career, who YOU want to help, and what success looks like for YOU! This is your business and career. You get to decide where you take it. You have the right to shape it in the way that most fulfills you and accomplishes your personal goals. The world of tax and accounting offers so many other paths to success beyond just filling out tax returns, reconciling books, and ticking a checklist. Your knowledge and skill can be leveraged in so many other ways to make an impact on your life and the lives of other people—you just need to make the time to map out what that looks like. It doesn’t matter if you are a business owner or an employee—you still are the pilot of this plane, and you get to decide what direction to take it. My passion for teaching others how to achieve their goals and pursue their passions will be at the heart of this session. If you have ever wondered if there was more to accounting than compliance work, and wanted to learn how to shift your business and career to more advisory-centric offerings, you will want to join us at this session.
