PRODUCT INFORMATION

What is Tax Form Dropoff?
Tax Form Dropoff is a web-based service that lets you send tax-related financial data to your tax preparer directly from your online financial institution accounts. This saves you the time of mailing or faxing the documents to your tax preparer.

How Do I Know Tax Form Dropoff Is Safe?

  • It's managed by Intuit, the company behind Quicken, Mint, and QuickBooks.
  • All data is transmitted through secure U.S.-based Intuit servers and uses 128-bit encryption, the same web standard used by banks and credit card companies.
  • Your tax preparer receives only the stock sale, interest, dividend, or wage income data downloaded from your online financial account and will never have access to your financial account sign in credentials.
  • Your credentials for accessing your online financial accounts are never stored.

What Kinds of Data Can Be Sent?

  • Stock sale income (1099-B)
  • Interest income (1099-INT)
  • Dividend income (1099-DIV)
  • Wages, tips, and other income (W-2)

What Is a Payroll Processor and How Do I Find Mine?
Payroll processors are companies, such as ADP and Intuit Payroll, that manage the process of paying other companies' employees.

You can identify the payroll processor for the firm you work at by looking at your pay stub. Typically the name of the processor will be shown in the upper right or upper left corner of the stub.

TROUBLESHOOTING

There are 2 known possible reasons for this error:

  1. The username and/or password are incorrect.
  2. We've also seen some cases where clients are providing a correct user name, but the Tax Form DropOff isn't allowing access. In this case, the Financial Institution is looking for another User Name, and the Tax Payer will likely have to contact the Financial Institution to resolve.

TaxFormDropoff Error, "Data is currently unavailable for <Financial Institution>. Please try to login and retrieve your data for <Financial Institution> at a later time."

This error may be presented if you attempt to download 1099 data from a financial institution that has not yet made 1099's available on their website.

1099 DropOff.com Error: "Fidelity Requires You to Login to their Site Before 1099 Download can Continue ..."
When attempting to login to Fidelity through the 1099DropOff website, an error reports:
"Fidelity requires you to login to their site before 1099 Download can continue to retrieve your data. Please login now at Fidelity, then return to 1099Dropoff.com to continue."

1099 DropOff.com Error

Solution
As a result of increased security recently added to the Fidelity website, the above message may be presented. If received, you may launch the Fidelity website and login via a separate browser window. Additional security questions may be asked by Fidelity when logging in.

After successfully logging in to Fidelity, you may return to 1099Dropoff.com and resume signing into your Fidelity account to complete your download.

1099 DropOff Error, " Requires You to Login to Their Site Before 1099 Download Can Continue..."
1099 DropOff Error reports "<Financial Institution> requires you to login to their site before 1099 Download can continue to retrieve your data. Please login now at <Financial Institution>, then return to 1099Dropoff.com to continue."

Solution
If a financial institution website utilizes enhanced login security on their website, this error may be presented when Tax Import attempts to retrieve the 1099 data from a computer that has not previously logged into the users account.

Solution
To allow Tax Import to continue with retrieving data, it will be necessary for the client to sign-in to the financial institution in a separate browser window. Once signed into the financial institution outside of 1099 DropOff, attempt to sign in to the financial institution again using 1099 DropOff. You should now be successful at retrieving your 1099 data.

Site Security Certificate Warning Appears When Going to a Website.
When going to an Intuit website you receive a warning saying the site security certificate is not valid.

Solution
The site security certificate is an electronic credential that is used to verify that a website is the site that it claims to be. Certificates are issued by organizations known as certificate authorities, which are generally private companies. The job of the certificate authority is the verify that that the certificate belongs to the organization noted in the certificate. Web browsers require that a valid certificate be installed on the web server to be able to connect to a site via an encrypted (secure) connection. All current web browsers automatically recognize certificates issued by the major certificate authorities.

If an alert warning of a mismatched security certificate occurs when accessing an Intuit site you can simply select yes and proceed. If the warning reoccurs check the computer's date / time to make sure it is correct.

Internet Connection Error 12029 with AT&T Internet Service Provider
AT&T and Yahoo! have included to their spam lists the IP addresses used by some Intuit programs to connect to the Intuit servers. If these settings are in effect in your Internet Service Area, it will cause the Intuit software to display internet connection error messages.

Note: Not all AT&T users could be affected by this issue since these ‘anti-spam’ lists settings could apply to certain Internet Service Areas only.
