Pennsylvania Schedule SP in Lacerte

by Intuit Updated 4 months ago

Pennsylvania's Schedule SP is automatically generated based on the eligibility requirement from the Schedule SP instructions. Entries that can impact this form, can be found in the following screens:

  • Screen 2, Miscellaneous Info./Direct Deposit under the Pennsylvania Miscellaneous section. Check the box If the taxpayer is a dependent on another's return, the person, on whose the taxpayer is a dependent, qualify for tax forgiveness if applicable.
  • Screen 53.051, Pennsylvania Credits - various entries are available under the Schedule SP section.

Although there are no input fields to override the credit, you can adjust the income calculated in the form to disable the credit.

To enter the adjustment and disable the form:

  1. Go to Screen 53.051, Pennsylvania Credits.
  2. Enter the amount of total non-PA income in the field Nonresident income (code 6 (T), and 25 (SP)).
    • This amount will add to the PA source income, totaling a number that exceeds the threshold limit and prevents Schedule SP from generating.
    • An entry in "Nonresident income" will not affect the Form PA-40, only the Schedule SP.

Caution: Taxpayers who are nonresidents and part-year residents of Pennsylvania may claim Tax Forgiveness if they meet all the eligibility requirements. Such taxpayers must include in their eligibility income as described whether earned within or outside Pennsylvania.

Additional Note: If paper filing, nonresident and part-year resident taxpayers of PA must also include a copy of page one of their federal income tax return along with their completed PA Schedule SP and Form PA-40.
