If Column (b) for an entry in Part I contains the value "Pd. 527(j)(1)" (checkbox "Pd527j1 is checked), then "Aggregate contributions" must have a value. If Column (b) for an entry contains a value other than "Pd. 527(j)(1)", then "Number", "Name", "Address" and "Aggregate contributions" must have a value and one or more of the checkboxes for Type of Contribution - "Person", "Payroll" or "Noncash" must be checked

If the first check box under Special Rules on page 1 is checked, then Contributors of the greater of $5,000 or two percent of the total contributions are listed.

On the Schedule A, Page 1, Part I, selecting boxes 5, 7, or 8 utilizes section 170(b)(1)(A). This is the section for applying the Special Rule.

  2. Enter a '1' or '2' in the field 501(c)(3) orgs: 1 = apply general rule, 2 = apply special rule (input sheet code 9).

  1. The organization has to be a 501(c)(3) organization filing Form 990 or 990EZ ("Type of Return" entered on input screen 1)

  • "Organization is operated for the benefit of a college or university owned or operated by a governmental unit (Section 170(b)(1)(A)(iv))" (screen 52.1, code 7)
  • "Organization is one that normally receives a substantial part of its support from a governmental unit or the general public (Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi))" (screen 52.1, code 8)
  • "Organization is a community trust (Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi))" (screen 52.1, code 9)

and all five years prior information has been entered on the Support Information screen (screen 52.2)  or an entry has been made in the "First five years of organization: 1 = yes, 2 = no [O]" (code  57)

5.  The special rule will not apply if no one contributor has contributed the greater of $5000 or 2% of the amount on Line 8 of Form 990 or 990EZ.

For tax years 2007 and earlier:

On the Schedule A, Page 2, Part IV, selecting the box on line 12  utilizes code 509 (a)(2). Selecting boxes 10 or 11 utilizes 509(a)(1). This is the section for applying the Special Rule.
