What's the NY paid preparer requirements and e-file mandate?
The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance requires tax preparers and e-filers to include certain information (specified below) in all NY state returns.
What do you need to include?
According to New York State, all return filers must include the following information on all paper and e-filed returns (if applicable):
- Preparer's name
- Firm's name (or yours, if self-employed)
- Address
- Preparer's NYTPRIN or NYTPRIN exclusion code (as applicable)
- Preparer's PTIN or Social Security number
- Firm's EIN
- Preparer's signature
New York State e-file mandate
The New York State e-file mandate states that taxpayers and tax return preparers using approved e-file tax software to prepare taxpayer returns are required to e-file authorized tax documents.
