Troubleshooting ProConnect diagnostic Ref. 25183

A fiduciary has a nonresident or foreign beneficiary who does not have a social security number, or employer identification number.  When the Identification Number field in Beneficiary/Grantor Info. > Beneficiary/Grantor Information is blank, a critical diagnostic generates:

• Beneficiary/Grantor #X: The Beneficiary Identification Number is either missing or invalid.  It should be a nine-digit number, "Applied For", "Foreign US", or "Form1042S" for a foreign beneficiary.

To resolve the diagnostic

1. Go to Beneficiary/Grantor Info. > Beneficiary/Grantor Information.
2. Select the foreign beneficiary using the tabs at the top of the screen.
3. Select the applicable option in the Identification Number field.
4. Go to the Check Return tab and verify the diagnostic is no longer present.
