
How to enter Alabama PTE tax in Lacerte

This article will help you report the elective pass-through entity tax (sometimes called PTE, PTET, PET, or SALT workaround) and the resulting credit.

To claim the credit on an Individual return:
- Go to Screen 57, Other.
- Use the left navigation to select Screen 57.401, Alabama Other.
- Scroll down to the Alabama Payments section.
- Complete the table for Composite payments and elect PTE credits (Ctrl+E).
The credit will flow to Schedule CP, from there to line 26 of Form 40.
To generate the PTE for a Partnership:
- Go to Screen 37, Miscellaneous Information.
- Use the top left navigation to select Screen 37.401, Alabama Miscellaneous Information.
- Scroll down to the Electing Pass-through Entity Tax section.
- Check the box for Electing EPT.
- Input amount in the 2024 Estimated tax payments field.
- Input amount in the Extention and WNR-V Tax Payments field.
- Find the subsection Form PTE-E Pass-Through Entity Election Form
- Enter a 1 if you're making an election
- Enter a 2 if you're revoking election
- Complete additional fields as needed.
This will flow to the Alabama EPT, as well as the EPT-K1.
To generate the PTE for an S-Corporation:
- Go to Screen 42, Miscellaneous.
- Use the top left navigation to select Screen 42.401, Alabama Miscellaneous.
- Scroll down to the Electing Pass-through Entity Tax section.
- Check the box for Electing EPT.
- Input amount in the 2024 Estimated tax payments field.
- Input amount in the Extention and WNR-V Tax Payments field.
- Find the subsection Form PTE-E Pass-Through Entity Election Form
- Enter a 1 if you're making an election.
- Enter a 2 if you're revoking election.
- Complete additional fields as needed.
This will flow to the Alabama EPT, as well as the EPT-K1.
