Understanding Form 114 e-file transmission failures in ProConnect Tax

When trying to e-file Form 114, e-file transmission errors may occur. Unlike e-file rejections, transmission failures occur when the return is being encrypted and transmitted.

The most common two errors encountered are:

  • An unexpected error occurred while processing the return or creating the efile payload data. Problem occurred getting ef payload data.
  • Requested efile items contains a mix of spouse and other efilings. This is not supported.

This error is caused by the e-file selections not being set properly for Form 114. To verify the 114 is set up to e-file properly:

  1. Go to the Profile tab
  2. Check the box for Federal Form 114
    • There are separate boxes for Taxpayer and Spouse.

Requested efile items contains a mix of spouse and other efilings. This is not supported.

This is a program limitation in ProConnect Tax. The taxpayer and spouse Form 114s must be e-filed separately. This can be done by following the steps below by:

  1. Go to the Profile tab
  2. Uncheck the box next to Federal Form 114 (Spouse)
  3. Submit the taxpayer's Form 114
  4. Go back to the Profile tab
  5. Uncheck the box next to Federal Form 114 (Taxpayer)
  6. Check the box next to Federal Form 114 (Spouse)
  7. Submit the spouse's Form 114
