Connect additional users to SmartVault

Only users with External integrations permissions can connect their accounts. Users in Advanced Tax roles can print tax returns, so this integration is available to users who have both permissions.

Multiple User Connections considerations:

  • Other firm users then connect with their ProConnect Tax username and SmartVault username. The SmartVault username should also be part of the SmartVault organization that the ProConnect Tax primary admin connected to.
  • Your SmartVault login does not need to be the same as yourProConnect Tax login.
  • Multiple ProConnect Tax users sharing the same SmartVault user will not work. Every user should connect using their own SmartVault username.
  • SmartVault uses Administrator, Account Employee, and Assigned Employee user types, not Primary Admin.

For the additional users to connect to SmartVault:

  1. Once the Primary Admin has done the initial connection:
  2. Have the next user open ProConnect Tax.
  3. From the left navigation, select All solutions.
  4. Locate SmartVault under the available integrations and select Connect.
  5. Select Authorize SmartVault.
  6. In Connect your accounts, select Continue.
  7. When prompted, sign in with your SmartVault credentials.
  8. Review the permission screen and select Allow to authorize access.
  9. Once connected, you’ll see confirmation that ProConnect Tax is linked to SmartVault.

To send a PDF file to SmartVault:

The integration creates a bridge between ProConnect Tax and SmartVault.

  1. Select File Return.
  2. From the Print Menu select PDF.
  3. Choose the return version (copy) you want to print and Create PDF within ProConnect Tax .
  4. Once the PDF is created, choose the option to Send to SmartVault.
  5. Documents will be automatically routed and filed into the appropriate client's folder in SmartVault.

If a client does not exist in SmartVault with the same ProConnect Tax client id, a new client is created in SmartVault.

Individual accountants and seasonal workers also need to connect their SmartVault accounts to this bridge, ensuring they are members of the same firm with matching SmartVault ID and Realm ID.

How long does the sign in period last?

A ProConnect Tax user’s connection lasts 30 days without action. Any action within 30 days resets the timer. After 30 days, a reconnection prompt will appear and the ProConnect Tax user will have to login to SmartVault again using the same SmartVault username they used earlier.

What if I have multiple Intuit accounts?

  • Multiple QuickBooks Online (QBO) accounts can connect to a single SmartVault account.
  • Multiple ProConnect Tax accounts can connect to a single SmartVault account. But a single ProConnect Tax account cannot be connected to multiple SmartVault accounts.
