A recent TIGTA report has some data on what happened to the 1.7 million people who used a VITA site in 2019 to prepare their 2018 return. More than 90% of VITA sites closed in 2020. For their 2019 return:

–Half a million did their own tax return.

–Half a million went to a paid preparer.

–Half a million had still not filed by late October 2020.
