Taxpayer selected California auto deduct for tax payment due. Lacerte letter generated with the tax return indicates the amount will be deducted on April 15, 2024. Taxpayer received a notice requesting payment of the tax amount due no later than April 15.
Is this a timing difference since the return was filed early? The 540 California tax return does not have a section for the bank account information for payment but it does have a section for the refund. This section is blank since there is a payment due. How would California be able to auto deduct if the bank information is not being printed on the tax return?
Thanks for any insight on this.

"How would California be able to auto deduct if the bank information is not being printed on the tax return?"
Because it is in the electronic file.
The more I know the more I don’t know.

Thank you - But why the notice of the amount of tax due and request for payment from Franchise Tax Board?
