Is there a way to export/import the information for people who received 1099-MISC Box 7 in prior years so that the information shows up when completing a 2020 1099-NEC? Otherwise, we will have to hand key information we already have all over again.

Tell your hands to rest up because I’m pretty sure you are going to be doing a lot of typing.

You can do an export out of your 2019 program of your 1099-MISC data and import it into your 2020 1099-NEC. Use the Help menu on export for detail.

What do you do if you have already replaced the 2019 program with the 2020 version? Hand key all this mess?

Installing the 2020 version of the Information Return System does not replace the 2019 version. The 2019 program should still be alive and well on your hard drive.

New release 2020.1.3 has a Data Transfer Utility. Open the 1099-MISC form under each company then on the Tools menu, click Transfer to NEC. It will ask if you want to Append or Overwrite. This copies anyone that had 1099-MISC Box 7 to 1099-NEC. Bad thing is that you have to do it by company and cannot do it globally. Still beats hand-keying.
