I can tell you what worked for me, but it may not work for anyone else. Go into another directory (for instance we have one named payroll) and open a client in that different directory. Then go back to your main data directory and see if you can open clients in that directory now. I hope that it works for you. I have 7 computers and only 2 of them work properly with the software. All computers are Dell and all are on updated current Windows. There seems to be no rhyme or reason. Good luck to all.

My discovery on my end is that I think it does not like any backup files for the company....why now...who knows. I restored a client of another employee and I did not have that client anywhere on my computer...backup folders or anything. I had no problem opening it or anything but she can't access it on her computer. So when I tried to restore one of my clients from a backup from another employee's computer, I got the same pop up message you did which I had been getting a lot. So I went in the drive folder C:Easy\W and just decided to test and delete all the backup folders that were in there plus delete the client from my company list. I also made sure any files associated with that client's id that had a current date in C:Easy\W were deleted. I then tried to restore from thumb drive again for the client and went in to open it and it opened right up.
However, for some reason(and I might have deleted a file I shouldn't have), the payroll journal shows the payroll and deductions fine but it is not showing at all on the earnings report. So not a total victory.

Could you please explain what is meant by "opening a client in another directory"?
I'm experiencing the same issue as you. The same client files work on some computers but not on others.

Happened to me, too. A network lock on a company on my server turned into every one of my company files on my shared drive being corrupted. NO IDEA how that could happen. I am having to restore every single one of my company files out of backups that were created when the companies were opened in each of the updates. I am losing hours, if not days, of bookkeeping on every client, as well as my own time restoring files. It is probably going to take me 3+ days to get through all of this and my staff over a week to duplicate work that has already been done and lost, all the while I have tax returns piling up...
