For new clients, I am trying to import their 2022 tax return pdfs into lacerte 2022, so i can generate a tax organizer for 2023. Lacerte 2022 says the import function will no longer be in service, but is functional in Lacerte 2023. Is there any other way to import 2022 data to prepare 2023 taxes without manually inputting data?

You can import data from a variety of other programs, but not from a pdf copy of a tax return.
Answers are easy. Questions are hard!

You can't "import" a PDF return. What you can do is "convert" data file from other tax software, a list of which can be found in this article: https://accountants.intuit.com/tax-software/lacerte/data-conversion/
On the other hand, you can "import" tax data from various tax documents in PDF: https://accountants.intuit.com/support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/importing-scanned...

Thank you for your reply! So it sounds like there is no way around manual input of the prior year's return to generate a tax organizer for this year? I am wondering if there is a better way to onboard new clients into Lacerte that you all are aware of. Thank you!

If your client used TurboTax, ask for the data file.
If it's an accountant who prepared the prior year return, ask your client for permission to obtain the data file from the former accountant, who may or may not agree to release it.
