What role did technology play in expediting your work?<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cReflecting on Your Tax Season and How To Improve The Next One,\u201d a session held during the April Intuit\u00ae QuickBooks\u00ae and ProConnect\u2122 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woodard.com\/conferences\/quickbooksvcon\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_VCon-April17\" target=\"_blank\">Virtual Conference<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.forneycpa.com\/_index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_ForneyCPA\" target=\"_blank\">Bryce Forney, CPA<\/a>, advised tax preparers on how to have a smoother, stronger and more profitable experience for their clients: go paperless, get your practice in the cloud, and work virtually, anywhere, anytime. Here is what Bryce had to say.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Go Paperless or go Home<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Going paperless not only makes tax preparers more profitable and free to take on new clients; it also allows them a little more free time, even during tax season.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8248\" src=\"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/work-process-1.png\" alt=\"Work process\" width=\"982\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The image above illustrates a very time-consuming process for yourself and the client in a race to meet the deadline. That\u2019s the old way of doing things. Tax preparers who <em>don\u2019t<\/em> make the change to a more future-oriented practice will be left behind. Bryce said we must ditch this old process. Doing so eliminates the server and its issues, the requirement to perform updates, and an IT team to manage security.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8247\" src=\"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/work-process-2.png\" alt=\"Work process\" width=\"982\" height=\"472\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This image represents the process and steps for going paperless and embracing cloud tax prep. Bryce has clients send tax documents through <a href=\"https:\/\/proconnect.intuit.com\/ito-link\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_link-ito\">Intuit Link<\/a>, where he\u2019s then able to use the information to start the preparation process right away with <a href=\"https:\/\/proconnect.intuit.com\/tax-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_ito\">ProConnect Tax Online<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProConnect Tax Online is a web-based tax prep app that is very robust and allows you to prepare the tax return, send the draft to the client and request a signature,\u201d he said. \u201cClients tell me how incredibly easy it is to e-file, and with <a href=\"https:\/\/proconnect.intuit.com\/esignature-tax-online\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_esig-ito\">eSignature<\/a> powered by DocuSign, the client can security sign the return online.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Get in the Cloud<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCloud technology takes us into a completely new arena for our practice,\u201d said Bryce, who said this process starts by getting connected with <a href=\"https:\/\/quickbooks.intuit.com\/accountants\/quickbooks-accountant\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_qboa\">QuickBooks Online Accountant<\/a> (QBOA) and exploring which apps to use. \u201cQBOA is the lens through which we set our clients\u2019 books.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>QBOA alerts him if a client makes a change; he can then proactively go in and fix the issue right away, making sure the numbers are good, and saving lots of time and headache in the process. Bryce also said that as a tax preparer, the big challenge is more so mastering QBOA than it is switching clients from QuickBooks Desktop to QBO.<\/p>\n<p>To see a snapshot of the powerful benefits of QBO and the cloud, look at the visual below:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-8246\" src=\"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/work-process-3.png\" alt=\"Work process\" width=\"980\" height=\"391\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce preparers know QBOA, switching will be a no brainer,\u201d said Bryce. \u201cWith that in place, tax preparers need to find cloud apps that take their clients\u2019 experience to the next level.\u201d Bryce prefers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropbox.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_dropbox\" target=\"_blank\">Dropbox<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/onedrive.live.com\/about\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_ms-onedrive\" target=\"_blank\">Microsoft OneDrive<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_google-drive\" target=\"_blank\">Google Drive<\/a> for storage, and said that <a href=\"https:\/\/appcenter.intuit.com\/smartvault\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wa-link=\"body_smartvault\">SmartVault<\/a> is best for accounting professionals who want to be absolutely positive that security is at its highest level.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, for any of this to work, we must be able to work virtually, he said. Whether it\u2019s driving into town at 5:30 a.m. and hitting up a Starbucks and working there to avoid the San Francisco traffic, or working from a conference halfway across the country, he is able to serve his clients anywhere, anytime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith our clients and ourselves constantly on the go, working virtually is a <em>must<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Future of Tax Prep<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the future of tax prep, Bryce urges tax accountants to tap into the freedom and flexibility of the cloud with ProConnect Tax Online. He says that the roadmap to implementing this starts with learning how to use the robust, cloud-enabled online tax app, and then considering tax return workflow changes for paperless productivity.
