As such, security measures are used to maintain the integrity, privacy, and accessibility of files during the process of storing and\/or transferring them. Digitally, this involves the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Encryption.<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/practice-management\/security-summit-reminds-tax-pros-to-beware-of-spear-phishing-emails\/\">Encrypted files<\/a> cannot be read without an encryption key. Without the key, a file that gets intercepted or stolen will simply be random gibberish.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Access controls.<\/strong> Passwords, permissions, and credentials that specify who is authorized to access what.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Secure transfer protocols.<\/strong> Examples include HTTPS, SFTP, and FTPS\u2014the \u201cS\u201d in each case standing for \u201csecure.\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Audit trails.<\/strong> A record of every action and interaction with the file, so anomalies can be spotted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Data integrity checks.<\/strong> Common examples include <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Checksum\" target=\"_blank\">checksums<\/a> and hashes.
