As a result, the IRS issues periodic updates all tax and accounting professionals ought to know about in order to advise their clients on changes in IRS filing dates and more. This article will updated periodically as more update are available, and you can refer to this article for <a href=\"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/tax-law-and-news\/new-tax-breaks-available-for-disaster-victims\/\">previous updates through February 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/28\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses in the Juneau area of Alaska, affected by flooding that began on Aug. 5, 2024.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers now have&nbsp;until May 1, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Currently, this includes the City and Borough of Juneau&nbsp;in Alaska.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/15\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses of the San Carlos Apache Tribe in the state of Arizona affected by the Watch Fire that began on July 10, 2024.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Currently, this includes the&nbsp;San Carlos Apache Tribe in Arizona.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/11\/24:<\/strong> Due to Hurricane Milton, the IRS announced relief for individuals and businesses in 51 counties in Florida.&nbsp;Individuals and businesses in six counties that previously did not qualify for relief under either Hurricane Debby or Hurricane Helene&nbsp;will receive disaster tax relief beginning Oct. 5, 2024, and concluding on May 1, 2025. They are&nbsp;Broward, Indian River, Martin, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach and St. Lucie.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, individuals and businesses in 20 counties previously receiving relief under Debby, but not Helene will receive disaster tax relief under Hurricane Milton, from Aug. 1, 2024, thru May 1, 2025. They are Baker, Brevard, Clay, DeSoto, Duval, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Lake, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Putnam, Seminole, St. Johns and Volusia counties.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result, affected taxpayers in all of Florida now have&nbsp;until May 1, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments, including 2024 individual and business returns normally due during March and April 2025 and 2023 individual and corporate returns with valid extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/3\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses in the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation in Washington state affected by wildfires that began on June 22, 2024.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Currently, this includes the&nbsp;Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation&nbsp;in Washington state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/2\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced disaster tax relief for all individuals and businesses affected by Hurricane Helene, including the entire states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina and parts of Florida, Tennessee, and Virginia.Taxpayers in these areas now have&nbsp;until May 1, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Among other things, this includes 2024 individual and business returns normally due during March and April 2025, 2023 individual and corporate returns with valid extensions and quarterly estimated tax payments. Besides all of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, this currently includes 41 counties in Florida, eight counties in Tennessee and six counties and one city in Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 10\/1\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of Illinois affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds and flooding that began on July 13, 2024.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Currently, this includes Cook, Fulton, Henry, St. Clair, Washington, Will and Winnebago counties in Illinois.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS announced that, due to recent terrorist attacks in Israel, the agency is providing additional tax relief to affected individuals and businesses, postponing until&nbsp;Sept. 30, 2025, a wide range of deadlines for&nbsp;filing federal returns, making tax&nbsp;payments,&nbsp;and performing other time-sensitive tax-related actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 9\/18\/24:<\/strong> The IRS today announced disaster tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of Pennsylvania affected by Tropical Storm Debby.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This relief is comparable to that provided in other states impacted by Debby. Currently, this includes Lycoming, Potter, Tioga and Union counties in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 9\/13\/24: <\/strong>The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in the entire state of Louisiana, affected by Tropical Storm Francine that began on Sept. 10, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business, anywhere in Louisiana, qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 9\/10\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Connecticut and New York affected by severe storms and flooding from torrential rainfalls that began on Aug. 18, 2024. Some communities in western Connecticut also experienced landslides and mudslides from these storms.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in Suffolk County New York and in Fairfield, Litchfield, and New Haven counties in Connecticut qualify for tax relief.&nbsp;The same relief will be available to any other counties added later to the disaster area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 8\/29\/24: <\/strong>The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses throughout the U.S. Virgin Islands affected by Tropical Storm Ernesto that began on Aug. 13, 2024. These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in any of the U.S. Virgin Islands\u2019 four islands qualify for tax relief. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 8\/23\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses throughout Puerto Rico affected by Tropical Storm Ernesto that began on Aug. 13, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in any of Puerto Rico\u2019s 78 municipalities qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in South Dakota that were affected by severe storms, straight-line winds and flooding that began on June 16, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in Aurora, Bennett, Bon Homme, Brule, Buffalo, Charles Mix, Clay, Davison, Douglas, Gregory, Hand, Hanson, Hutchinson, Jackson, Lake, Lincoln, McCook, Miner, Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn, Tripp, Turner, Union and Yankton counties qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 8\/12\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in four states affected by Hurricane Debby.&nbsp;Affected taxpayers in South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida and Georgia now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;Areas affected include: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>All 46 counties in South Carolina.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The following 61 counties in Florida:&nbsp;Alachua,&nbsp;Baker, Bay, Bradford, Brevard,&nbsp;Calhoun,&nbsp;Charlotte, Citrus, Clay, Collier, Columbia, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Escambia, Flagler,&nbsp;Franklin, Gadsden, Gilchrist, Glades, Gulf, Hamilton, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Holmes, Jackson,&nbsp;Jefferson, Lafayette, Lake, Lee, Leon, Levy, Liberty, Madison, Manatee, Marion, Monroe, Nassau, Okaloosa, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk,&nbsp;Putnam, Santa Rosa, Sarasota, Seminole, St. Johns,&nbsp;Sumter, Suwannee, Taylor, Union,&nbsp;Volusia, Walton, Wakulla, and Washington.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The following 55 counties in Georgia:&nbsp;Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Bryan, Bulloch, Burke, Camden, Candler, Charlton, Chatham, Clinch, Coffee, Colquitt, Cook, Crisp, Decatur, Dodge, Echols, Effingham, Emanuel, Evans, Glynn, Grady, Irwin, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lanier, Laurens, Liberty, Long, Lowndes, McIntosh, Mitchell, Montgomery, Pierce, Richmond, Screven, Tattnall, Telfair, Thomas, Tift, Toombs, Treutlen, Turner, Ware, Wayne, Wheeler, Wilcox, and Worth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The following 66 counties in North Carolina: Alamance, Anson, Beaufort, Bertie, Bladen , Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Caswell, Chatham, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Cumberland, Currituck, Dare, Davie, Davidson, Duplin, Durham, Edgecombe, Forsyth, Franklin, Gates, Granville, Greene, Guilford, Halifax, Harnett, Hertford, Hoke, Hyde, Johnston, Jones, Lee, Lenoir, Martin, Montgomery, Moore, Nash, New Hanover, Northampton, Onslow, Orange, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Person, Pitt, Randolph, Richmond, Robeson, Rockingham, Sampson, Scotland, Stokes, Surry, Tyrrell, Vance, Wake, Warren, Washington, Wayne, Wilson, and Yadkin.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 8\/12\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in 25 Minnesota counties affected by severe storms and flooding that began on June 16, 2024. These taxpayers now have until Feb. 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. This means that individuals and households that reside or have a business in Blue Earth, Carver, Cass, Cook, Cottonwood, Faribault, Fillmore, Freeborn, Goodhue, Itasca, Jackson, Lake, Le Sueur, Mower, Murray, Nicollet, Nobles, Pipestone, Rice, Rock, St. Louis, Steele, Wabasha, Waseca, and Watonwan counties qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 7\/30\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in 67 Texas counties affected by Hurricane Beryl that began on July 5, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Feb. 3, 2025, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;This means that&nbsp;individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in Anderson, Angelina, Aransas, Austin, Bowie, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson Calhoun, Cameron, Camp, Cass, Chambers, Cherokee, Colorado, Dewitt, Fayette, Fort Bend, Freestone, Galveston, Goliad, Gregg, Grimes, Hardin, Harris, Harrison, Hidalgo, Houston, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Kenedy, Kleberg, Lavaca, Lee, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Marion, Matagorda, Milam, Montgomery, Morris, Nacogdoches, Newton, Nueces, Orange, Panola,&nbsp; Polk, Refugio, Robertson, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, San Patricio, Shelby, Trinity, Tyler, Upshur, Victoria, Walker, Waller, Washington, Webb, Wharton and Willacy counties qualify for tax relief.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 6\/27\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in Mississippi that were affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding that began on April 8, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have&nbsp;until Nov. 1, 2024, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;Individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in Hancock, Hinds, Humphreys, Madison, Neshoba, and Scott counties qualify for tax relief.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 6\/10\/24: <\/strong>The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of West Virginia affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, flooding, landslides and mudslides that began on April 2, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Nov. 1, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make payments.&nbsp;Currently, individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Hancock, Kanawha, Lincoln, Marshall, Nicholas, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Tyler, Wayne, and Wetzel counties qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 6\/10\/24:<\/strong> The IRS announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in parts of Kentucky affected by severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, landslides and mudslides that began on April 2, 2024.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have until Nov. 1, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make payments.&nbsp;Currently, individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in Boyd, Carter, Fayette, Greenup, Henry, Jefferson, Jessamine, Mason, Oldham, Union, and Whitley counties qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 5\/31\/24:<\/strong> Individuals and businesses in parts of Massachusetts affected by severe storms and flooding that began on Sept. 11, 2023 have until July 31, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make payments. Currently, individuals and households that reside or have a business in Bristol and Worcester counties qualify for tax relief. The same relief will be available to any other counties added later to the disaster area. The current list of eligible localities is always available on the Tax relief in disaster situations page on IRS.gov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 4\/5\/24:<\/strong> Individuals and businesses in parts of Rhode Island that were affected by severe storms and flooding that began on Dec. 17, 2023, and Jan. 9, 2024, now have&nbsp;until July 15, 2024, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments. Currently, individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in Kent, Providence, and Washington counties qualify for tax relief. The same relief will be available to any counties added later to the disaster areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals and businesses in parts of Maine who were affected by severe storms and flooding that began on Jan. 9, 2024, now have until July 15, 2024, to file various federal individual and business tax returns and make payments. Currently, individuals and households that reside or have a business in Cumberland, Hancock, Knox, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Waldo, Washington, and York counties qualify for tax relief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Update 4\/3\/24:<\/strong> Individuals and businesses affected by the terrorist attacks in the State of Israel have&nbsp;until Oct. 7, 2024, to&nbsp;file various federal returns, make tax payments and perform other time-sensitive tax-related actions. In&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-drop\/n-23-71.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Notice 2023-71<\/a>, posted Oct. 13, 2023, the IRS provided relief to taxpayers who, due to the terrorist attacks, may be unable to meet a tax-filing or tax-payment obligation, or may be unable to perform other time-sensitive tax-related actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS further postponed until Aug. 7, 2024, various tax-filing and tax-payment deadlines for individuals and businesses affected by the Aug. 8, 2023, wildfires in Hawaii. Previously, the deadline was Feb. 15, 2024. In general, this means that affected individuals, businesses, and tax-exempt organizations will now have until Aug. 7, 2024, to file their 2023 returns and pay any taxes due. This is in addition to the expansive relief,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/irs-announces-expansive-tax-relief-for-victims-of-wildfires-in-parts-of-hawaii\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a>&nbsp;last August, shortly after the wildfires occurred. The IRS is offering relief to Maui and Hawaii counties, the two areas designated by the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fema.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Emergency Management Agency<\/a> (FEMA). Individuals and households that reside or have a business in these localities qualify for tax relief. The current list of eligible localities is always available on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/newsroom\/tax-relief-in-disaster-situations\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tax relief in disaster situations<\/a>&nbsp;page on IRS.gov.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IRS also announced tax relief for individuals and businesses in the Wrangell Cooperative Association of Alaska Tribal Nation that were affected by severe storms, landslides and mudslides that began on Nov. 20, 2023.&nbsp;These taxpayers now have&nbsp;until July 15, 2024, to&nbsp;file various federal individual and business tax returns and make tax payments.&nbsp;Individuals&nbsp;and households that reside or have a business in the Wrangell Cooperative Association of Alaska Tribal Nation qualify for tax relief.&nbsp;The same relief will be available to any other Alaska localities added later to the disaster area.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Get continuous updates on
