{"id":22606,"date":"2021-03-17T08:00:29","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T13:00:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/taxprocenter.proconnect.intuit.com\/?p=22606"},"modified":"2021-04-06T08:58:54","modified_gmt":"2021-04-06T13:58:54","slug":"american-rescue-plan-includes-new-exclusion-of-up-to-10200-of-unemployment-compensation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/accountants.intuit.com\/taxprocenter\/tax-law-and-news\/american-rescue-plan-includes-new-exclusion-of-up-to-10200-of-unemployment-compensation\/","title":{"rendered":"American Rescue Plan includes new exclusion of up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The American Rescue Plan of 2021, enacted March 11, 2021, includes a new exclusion of up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, if your clients&#8217; modified adjusted gross income (AGI) is less than $150,000, the American Rescue Plan excludes from income up to $10,200 of unemployment compensation paid in 2020, which means your clients don\u2019t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200. If they are married, each spouse receiving unemployment compensation doesn\u2019t have to pay tax on unemployment compensation of up to $10,200. Amounts over $10,200 for each individual are still taxable. If modified AGI is $150,000 or more, they can\u2019t exclude any unemployment compensation.<\/p>\n<p>The exclusion should be reported separately from unemployment compensation. Compensation Exclusion Worksheet to figure the exclusion and the amount to enter on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/f1040s1.pdf\"title=\"\"  target=\"_blank\" rel=\"false noopener\"
