Get up to speed on key compliance dates and what you need to tell your clients. In September, it is recommended that you: Schedule appointments with individual clients for year-end tax planning sessions. Remind individual clients on automatic six-month extensions of Oct. 17 filing deadline for 2015 returns. File returns for calendar-year corporations and partnerships that obtained automatic extensions. Key Compliance Dates: Friday, Sept. 2 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid on Aug. 27-30. Thursday, Sept. 8 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid on Aug. 31–Sept. 2. Friday, Sept. 9 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid on Sept. 3-6. Monday, Sept. 12 – Tipped employees who received $20 or more in tips during August report them to the employer on Form 4070. Wednesday, Sept. 14 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 7-9. Thursday, Sept. 15 – Monthly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax for August. Individuals and calendar-year corporations pay the third installment of 2016 estimated tax. Calendar-year corporations file 2015 income tax return (Form 1120 for C corporations; 1120S for S corporations) if automatic six-month extension was obtained. Partnerships file 2015 Form 1065 if an automatic five-month extension was obtained. Friday, Sept. 16 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 10-13. Wednesday, Sept. 21 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 14-16. Friday, Sept. 23 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 17-20. Wednesday, Sept. 28 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 21-23. Friday, Sept. 29 – Semiweekly depositors deposit FICA and withheld income tax on wages paid Sept. 24-27.
