Marking federal returns as initial or final in Lacerte

How do you mark a return as Initial, Final, or both in Lacerte?

Corporate

  1. Go to Screen 4.1Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Under the Miscellaneous section, enter a 1, 2, or 3 in the field 1= initial return, 2= final return, 3= both.

Partnership

  1. Go to Screen 3Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Under the Miscellaneous Information section, select the box Initial return (if applicable).
  3. Under the Final Return subsection, select the box Final return (if applicable).
    • Select both boxes to mark the return as Initial and Final.

S corporate

  1. Go to Screen 3.1Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Under the Miscellaneous Information section, select the box Initial return (if applicable).
  3. Under the Final Return subsection, select Final return (if applicable).
    • Select both boxes to mark the return as Initial and Final.

Exempt Organization

  1. Go to Screen 4.1Misc. (990-N, 990, 990-PF, 990-T).
  2. Under section Miscellaneous (990-N, 990, 990-PF, 990-T) in the field labeled 1=inital return, 2=final return/termination, 3=both, enter a 12, or 3.

Benefit Plan

  1. Go to Screen 3Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Under the section General Information, select the box Initial return/report (if applicable).
  3. Select the box Final return/report (if applicable).
    • Select both boxes to mark the return as Initial and Final.

Fiduciary

  1. Go to Screen 2.1Miscellaneous Information.
  2. Under the section Estate/Trust Information, select the box Initial return.
  3. Under the section Final Year Estate/Trust, select the box Final return.
    • Select both boxes to mark the return as Initial and Final.
