This article will assist you with generating DC Form D-30, Unincorporated Business Franchise Tax Return, in the Individual module of ProConnect Tax.

For more Schedule C resources, check out our Tax topics page for Schedule C where you'll find answers to the most commonly asked questions.

Follow these steps to generate Form D-30 in the program:

  1. Go to the Profile tab of the return.
  2. Make sure that you've added Dist of Columbia.
  3. Go to the Input Return tab.
  4. From the left of the screen, select Income.
  5. Select the applicable screen: Business Income (Sch C) or Rental and Royalty Income (Sch E).
  6. From the top of the screen, select the three dots and choose State & Local.
  7. Locate the District of Columbia Information section.
  8. Check the box labeled District of Columbia unincorporated business (Sch C) or Unincorporated business (Sch E).
  9. From the left of the screen, select State & Local and choose Taxes.
  10. Select DC - Unincorp. Business.
  11. Enter the Business name (MANDATORY).
  12. Select the appropriate radio button for Taxpayer, Spouse, or Joint.
    • If this selection doesn't match what you chose on the Schedule C or Schedule E input, the form won't generate.
  13. Enter any other applicable information on this screen, such as DC-specific income, deductions, apportionment, net operating losses, cost of goods sold, estimates, and balance sheet amounts.

Additional entries for DC part-year residents

  1. From the left of the screen, select State & Local and choose DC Part-year/Nonres Information.
  2. Enter the Part-year resident from date.
  3. Enter the Part-year resident to date.

Additional entries for DC nonresidents

  1. From the left of the screen, select State & Local and choose DC Part-year/Nonres Information.
  2. Check the box labeled Form D-30 only.

Additional information

  • Form D-30 can be e-filed. Refer to this article for information on the date you can begin e-filing this form.
  • Generally, an unincorporated business with gross income over $12,000 from D.C. sources must file a D-30, regardless of whether it has net income.
  • The taxpayer/spouse/joint designation on the income screen must match the DC-Unincorp. Business screen. For example, if the Sch C is marked Spouse, the related D.C. screen must also be marked as Spouse.
