Common questions about entering Indiana county tax in Lacerte

Below are solutions to frequently asked questions about entering Indiana county tax in the Individual module.

Follow these steps to enter the county tax rates when either the Taxpayer, the Spouse, or both are nonresidents of an Indiana county:

  1. Go to Screen 3, Miscellaneous Information/Direct Deposit.
  2. Scroll down to the Indiana Miscellaneous section.
  3. Select the appropriate county number in County code of residence for the resident person, if applicable.
  4. Select the appropriate county number in County code of work activity for the nonresident person.
    • The amounts will calculate on IN Sch CT-40/40PNR. Residents will report in section 1, nonresidents will report in section 2.

Follow these steps to enter Indiana county tax withholding:

  1. Select Screen 14.1, SS Benefits, Alimony, Misc. Income.
  2. Select Tax Withheld from the left navigation menu.
  3. Enter amount of county tax withheld for taxpayer and/or spouse in the County income tax withheld [IN] field.
  4. Go to the Forms tab.
  5. Open Indiana Form IT-40PNR.
  6. Make sure that the county tax withheld flows to the form successfully.
    • The amount should flow to Schedule F, line 2 and Form IT-40PNR, line 12.

Follow these steps to enter the work and residence county codes:

  1. Go to Screen 3, Miscellaneous Information/Direct Deposit.
  2. Select Indiana Miscellaneous from the left navigation menu.
  3. Enter the appropriate county code under the Self and Spouse subsections in the applicable fields:
    • County code of residence
    • County code of work activity
  4. Nonresidents should select All Other States in the applicable fields with the exception of the states shown below:
    • Illinois - 94
    • Kentucky - 95
    • Michigan - 96
    • Ohio - 97
    • Pennsylvania - 98
    • Wisconsin - 99
