
Where to Enter New York 529 Plan Contributions

To enter a 529 Plan Contribution:
- Go to Screen 51.091, New York Modifications.
- Scroll down to the section New York Subtractions.
- Enter the dollar amount in the field S-103 College tuition savings deduction (code 9).
Additional Information: If the taxpayer made contributions as the account owner to one or more tuition savings account(s) established under the New York State 529 College Savings Program, then include contributions, up to $5000 ($10,000 for married filing joint) on Line 30 of the NY Form IT-201 (line 29 of the IT-203 in the Federal amount column only), New York's 529 College Savings Program deduction / earnings.
The program will automatically limit the amount entered to $10,000 for Married Filing Joint returns and $5,000 for all other filing Status?s. Afterwards, it will be combined with qualified tuition program distributions reported on Form 1040.
NOTE: Page 30 of IT-203 form instructions state the amounts should be reported "in the Federal column only".
