
How to resolve ProConnect Tax diagnostic Ref 40377 - Invalid setup: No Form 114 in the return

This article will help resolve the following e-file critical diagnostic:
- e-file: Invalid Setup: Form 114 for the Taxpayer had been selected for Electronic Filing but there is no Form 114 for the taxpayer in the return. Please double check your entries. (ref. #40377)
This diagnostic will generate if the Federal Form 114 (Taxpayer) has been selected for e-file on the Profile tab, but there's no foreign account entered for the taxpayer.
To resolve this diagnostic by entering a foreign account for the taxpayer:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ Miscellaneous Forms ⮕ Foreign Reporting (114, 8938)
- Select Foreign Bank Account (114)
- Select the blue Account hyperlink in the upper right corner
- Enter a 1 or 2 in, Type of account: 1= bank acct, 2= securities acct, or specify.
- Enter the Maximum value of account (-1= unknown).
- Complete all of the information in the Financial Institution subsection.
- Complete all other applicable information for the foreign account.
To resolve this diagnostic if the taxpayer doesn't have a foreign bank account and the spouse does:
- Go to the Profile tab
- Uncheck the box under Select for E-file next to Federal Form 114 (Taxpayer)
- Check the box under Select for E-file next to Federal Form 114 (Spouse), if it is not yet checked
To resolve this diagnostic if neither the taxpayer or spouse have foreign bank accounts:
- Go to the Profile tab
- Uncheck the box under Select for E-file next to both Federal Form 114 (Taxpayer) and Federal Form 114 (Spouse)
To resolve this diagnostic if the information proforma'd from the prior year:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ Miscellaneous Forms ⮕ Foreign Reporting (114, 8938)
- Select Foreign Bank Account (114)
- Select the blue Account hyperlink in the upper right corner.
- Review the Financial Institution information and all other inputs on this screen to make sure they are correct
- You may need to delete the account information and re-enter it if the data was corrupted in the profoma
- Select the Profile tab and make sure that the correct form 114 is selected for e-file.
To resolve this diagnostic for accounts owned jointly and the 114 is not being amended:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ Miscellaneous Information ⮕ Foreign Reporting (114, 8938)
- Select Foreign Bank Account (114)
- Select the blue Back to General Information hyperlink in the upper right.
- Delete any entries in Taxpayer Bank Security Act ID (BSA ID).
- Delete any entries in Spouse Bank Security Act ID (BSA ID).
If none of the steps above clear the diagnostic:
- Go to Input Return ⮕ Miscellaneous Forms ⮕ Foreign Reporting (114, 8938)
- Select Foreign Bank Account (114)
- Select the blue Account hyperlink in the upper right.
- Click on the x button in the upper right corner of the tabs along the top of this screen with the name of the accounts.
- Re-enter all of the information following the steps above.
