by Intuit•4• Updated 1 week ago
ProConnect Tax optimizes between itemized deductions and the standard deduction to generate the lowest tax burden for your client.
Standard deduction amounts have increased under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. For the tax year 2025 adjustments see here.
To enter itemized deductions for the Schedule A
- Go to the Input Return tab.
- Select Deductions from the left menu, then Itemized Deductions (Sch A).
- Enter the applicable deductions in the tabs across the top menu.
- Go to the Check Return tab to review the Schedule A.
- If the Schedule A isn't generating, then ProConnect has determined that the standard deduction is more beneficial. However, you can force the Schedule A to print for your review, or force the return to itemize using the instructions below.
To force the Schedule A to print
- Go to the Input Return tab.
- Select Deductions from the left menu, then Itemized Deductions (Sch A).
- Go to the Less Common Scenarios tab.
- Enter 1 in the field 1=force Schedule A to print (not for EF), 2=when applicable [Override].
To force the return to itemize deductions
- Go to the Input Return tab.
- Select Deductions from the left menu, then Itemized Deductions (Sch A).
- Go to the Less Common Scenarios tab.
- Enter a 1 or 2 in the field 1=must itemize, 2=elect to itemize, 3=force standard deduction [Override].
- Enter 1 if the taxpayer is Married Filing Separately and their spouse also itemized, or if the taxpayer was a dual status alien. If neither of those situations apply, enter 2.
