Electronically filing prior-year Form 114 (FBAR) returns

by Intuit Updated 4 months ago

This article will assist you with e-filing a prior-year Form 114 (FBAR return) in the Individual module of Lacerte.

What years can I e-file?

The program allows you to e-file Form 114 (FBAR) for 2023 and the two years prior through the relevant tax year product. To see how to e-file the Form 114 see E-filing Form 114/FinCEN Report (FBAR) in Lacerte

E-filing Form 114 online using the BSA E-Filing System

You may also submit Form 114 electronically online for all tax years via the BSA E-Filing System website. This website provides filers with the ability to enter the calendar year reported, including past years, when completing Form 114 online.

It also offers the option to explain a late filing, or to select "Other" to enter a further explanation of the late filing or indicate whether the filing was made in conjunction with an IRS compliance program.

Important historical notes

  • To file years prior to 2020 visit the FinCEN website.
  • Prior year products included a tax year input field, which could be used when producing a paper Form 114. It was required to be complete this on the most current version of the form.  This is no longer applicable or available.
  • As of September 30, 2013, the former FBAR return (Form TD F 90-22.1) was replaced with Form 114. Because of this change, you can no longer file Form TD F 90-22.1 for any tax year.
