Common questions about ProSeries Schedule 6
by Intuit• Updated 10 months ago
Below are the most popular questions associated with Federal 1040 Schedule 6- Foreign Address, Third Party Designee and Other Information in ProSeries 2018 or newer.
Preparer Is Third Party Designee
A Third Party Designee is an individual that is not the taxpayer or spouse that is authorized to speak to the IRS with regard to the return on which they are designated.
For tax year 2018 or newer:
Per IRS instructions: If you want to allow a friend, a family member, or any other person you choose (other than your paid preparer) to discuss your 20YY tax return with the IRS, check the “Yes” box in the “Third Party Designee” section of Schedule 6.
Within ProSeries, on the Federal Information Worksheet Part V, the Third Party Designee section only needs to be completed when the Third Party is not the paid preparer. Checking the appropriate boxes and completing the designee information will complete Schedule 6.
- If the Preparer is the 3rd Party Designee, the box for 3rd Party Designee is checked on page 2 of Form 1040 per the instructions for the 20YY Form 1040.
- If someone other than the preparer is the 3rd Party Designee, the Third Party Designee section on Schedule 6 will be completed
