How do I allocate 1099-INT and 1099-DIV amounts to multiple states on a part-year return?

by Intuit Updated 2 weeks ago

Lacerte does not automatically distribute 1099-INT and 1099-DIV earnings between multiple states based on residency periods. To accurately report these amounts, you will need to manually enter the earnings for each state and allocate them accordingly.

To allocate amounts from Form 1099-INT:

  1. Go to Screen 11, Interest Income.
  2. Select the 1099-INT from the left navigation panel
    • Select Add to enter a new 1099-INT.
  3. Select the Banks, savings & loans, credit unions, etc. field
  4. Hold Ctrl on your keyboard and press E to open the Supporting Detail window
  5. Enter the amounts to be reported to each state in the Amount column.
  6. Select the state from the State column.
  7. Click OK.
    • Note- This process can be completed for each input field on Screen 11, Interest Income.
  8. Repeat Steps 2-7 for each 1099-INT.

To allocate amounts from Form 1099-DIV:

  1. Go to Screen 12, Dividend Income.
  2. Select the 1099-DIV from the left navigation panel
    • Select Add to enter a new 1099-DIV.

  4. Hold Ctrl on your keyboard and press E to open the Supporting Detail window
  5. Enter the amounts to be reported to each state in the Amount column.
  6. Select the state from the State column.
  7. Click OK.
    • Note- This process can be completed for each input field on Screen 12, Dividend Income.
