Creating custom letters using Database Reports in Lacerte

In addition to modifying the letters that is provided for the tax return and the organizer, you can create additional letters using Database Reports in Lacerte. Some common uses of these custom letters are:
- Notification to preparers for updated tax laws or situations
- Engagement letters for non-individual clients
- Reminder letters for upcoming estimated payments for clients
- Holiday or birthday greetings
To create and print a custom letter:
- Go to the Clients tab
- Select a Client or group of Clients
- Note: To select a group of clients, press F3 to choose a specific group, or hold the Ctrl key while selecting clients
- Select the Print menu
- Select Database Reports
- Select the Letters tab
- Select the File menu
- Select New
- Select Yes or No to the question Base this letter on Default Custom Letter?
- Answering Yes will provide a generic letter that can be used as a template.
- Answering No will provide a blank letter without the use of a template.
- Enter a name in Enter the name of the new Database Letter
- Select OK
- Enter the information needed for your Custom Letter.
- Similar to other letters, you can use Keywords to populate the client's information when printing
- Bitmap images can also be added, such as your company logo
- Once completed, select the File menu, and then Save
- If you need to create other letters, repeat steps 6–12.
Once your letter is complete, you can select Print in the bottom left corner and choose to print to paper or print to pdf.
