How to generate or prepare a short year return in Lacerte
by Intuit•12• Updated 2 weeks ago
To generate a short year return, review the steps below for the applicable module:
If I've already e-filed the 2024 tax return in Lacerte 2024, can I e-file a Short Year 2025 return from Lacerte 2024?
- For Exempt returns:
- Yes. See the steps under For the Exempt Organization Module above.
- Note: Any states on the return will need to be removed.
- For Partnerships, Corporations, S-Corporations, Fiduciaries and Benefit Plans:
- No, each year can only e-file one non-amended filing for each tax year. Since the 2024 tax return was e-filed, you would not be able to file the short year 2025 return from Lacerte 2024 as it would be the second return using the 2024 forms.
- These short year returns will need to be paper-filed. Otherwise, you may file these short-year returns in the next year's program once the applicable forms have been finalized and released.
