This article will help you amend an Exempt Organization return for Form 990, Form 990-EZ, Form 990-PF, or Form 990-T in Lacerte.

How to amend an Exempt Organization return:

  1. Under the Detail tab, go to Screen 74, Amended Return.
  2. Select the applicable box:
    • Amended Return (990, 990-PF) (This will select the box on Form 990 or 990-EZ, Item B, or select the box on Form 990-PF, Item G).
    • Amended Return (990-T) (This will print "Amended Return" under Form 990-T).

If you're amending Form 990 due to missing Elections, select the box labeled Filing pursuant to section 301.9100-2.

  1. Select the box labeled Federal Amended Tax Due Must be Electronically Deposited (if applicable).
    • Select this box if you must e-file the amended tax through the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS). Lacerte changes the wording on the client letter and filing instructions to reflect this requirement.
      • If you're amending Form 990/990-EZ, skip to step 8.
      • If you're amending Form 990-PF, continue with steps 4–5 and then skip to step 8.
      • If you're amending Form 990-T, skip steps 4–5 and continue with step 6.
