How to enter prior-year tentative minimum tax carryovers for Form 8801 in Lacerte

The tentative minimum tax credit carryover is a revised total of the amount calculated on Form 6251, Line 35, which is used in calculating the Form 8801 credit for the next tax year.
(You can check the calculation by going to the previous tax year on Form 6251, Line 35.)
This article will show you where to enter a minimum tax credit and Form 8801 tentative minimum tax credit federal carryovers.
To enter a prior-year minimum tax credit carryover for Form 8801:
- Go to Screen 38.2, Recovery Rebate, EIC, Residential Energy, Other Credits.
- Locate the Minimum Tax Credit (8801) section.
- Enter the carryover amount in the Minimum tax credit carryover field.
To enter the tentative minimum tax credit carryover:
- Go to Screen 38.2, Recovery Rebate, EIC, Residential Energy, Other Credits.
- Locate the Minimum Tax Credit (8801) section.
- Under the Minimum tax credit carryover section, locate the [Prior tax year] Form 6251 subsection.
- Enter the carryover amount in Alternative minimum tax (line 11).
