Date Printed on Return and 8879

ALee

I have noticed that the date being printed on the tax return for preparer signature is defaulting to the current date.  I have had to override this date to reflect the date the return was actually submitted and accepted.  In addition, the same issue was noted for the 8879.  When printing the return, the date changed to current date instead of date return was electronically submitted.  I noticed this as an issue when I submitted three returns (an 1040, 1065 and 1120) yesterday.  They were accepted last night and when I tried to print them today,  the dates all defaulted to todays date.  The date showing up should be the date that the return was submitted for electronic filing.

Yes, The systems always defaults to current date on tax return.  The date the final return was printed won't always match the date submitted for efling   Don't  you need to print a copy for the client prior to efiling the return????     I use Client Status to track the date final return was printed, the date the client signed, etc

That is true but if I want to print the return with the acceptance info, it will not be correct.  The preliminary draft is for the client to know what is in the return, the 8879 provides client authorization to file by the ERO.  The date of the final return should be the date submitted.

So you think the date in the system should freeze once it's efiled....... Yeah, that doesn't happen.

Use the Client Status worksheet.  Check the box next to "By checking this box, the client billing/invoice and client letter dates will use the date XXX instead of your system date.

It is available for using the e-filed date or the date the return was provided to the client.  The "XXX" above is date of e-file or provision to the client.

This does not change the default of current date on the 1040, 1165, 1120 or 990.  Even with that box checked, the default is current date.  The system records the date efiled and accepted but does not transfer that to the tax forms.

And if you uncheck the box to efile a return, the postmark information is gone until you recheck. Drives me crazy.
