WHAT ARE THE STEPS TO FILE A 1040X

Go to Forms 1040X and activate it. Go to state and amended returns and activate it. Go back to Fed and if e-filing the amended check on it in the Federal Information Worksheet (see if your state can be e-filed in P.S.).  Enter the adjustments into the return. The changes will flow to the X.

On the information worksheet when you check the file federal return electronically, a window pops up and it says click here for instructions.

On the federal information worksheet part VII when you check the box to file the federal amended return electronically, a window pops up and it says click here for instructions.

But before you do anything, make sure you have a paper or pdf copy of the original return.
