I filed a return and checked the box indicating that person is dependent on another return. When it sent thru it did not show as that causing the other HOH return to reject. Can this be fixed?

If it is marked correctly then it could be a software issue although I haven't come across it. I would report it to proseries so they can see what happened. Unfotunately if your return was accepted the only fix is to amend.
simple answer is you need to amend and the other return will either have to wait a long time before they can re-efile or they can send a paper return in.
No sure by what you mean by the other HOH return - the dependent has to live with one or the other
One is HOH other is MFS or Single - you wouldn't have 2 HOH filings
If your client is primary for HOH then on the off year you remove the dependent from down below and put the info right by the HOH status
Part of the issue is that in the software it is marked correctly and it did not file the way it was marked. I wanted to find out if anyone else had experienced this error with this software as it is my first time with this particular type of error since using this software.
The dependent is the student/child of the primary Head of household, which I should have clarified on the initial question. I understand that in asking for help or assistance from the community, you are not sure as to who will offer that back to you. I thank you for your response.

Thank you !!
the other parent may have already claimed them, had nothing to do with the way you filed for the kid.
Short story is we’ve all seen these rejections before but more info is needed. IRS rejections are immediate and caused by exemption appearing on more than one return…. Not caused by the software
