I had a pc with Windows 10 on it. Since Windows 10 has no more support and not also compatible with Proseries 2025, I got a new computer and I needed to have my previous years at least 2024 clients present on my new computer.
PS 2025 still runs on Win 10. Its the automatic windows security updates that are no longer available, so it puts you at a security risk. I signed up for another year of free win 10 updates on my home system...at any rate you want to move your proseries files from one computer to the other.
Install the programs on the new computer, Start with the oldest year first.
Once youve got them installed, go back to the old computer, change Homebase to ALL FILES, Highlight them all, click File > Client File Maintenance and choose Copy/Backup. Back them up to a flashdrive.
Now take the flashdrive to the new computer and do the same thing, File > Client File Maintenance and choose RESTORE, point to the flashdrive and restore them to the new computer.
You may need to run Homebase Maintenance to sync everything up.
I have successfully used Laplink software PC Mover to transfer programs and data when I upgrade computers. Have done it several times the last 15 - 20 years including August of this year. I am very happy with the results. Multiple prior years of proseries programs transferred along with the data and were ready to run without going through a year by year reinstallation process.
Not sure if it's for everyone, but it does work for me.
Looks like there's a Migration tool that Ive never noticed before, no clue what it entails, Ive always done it manually. So if you dont feel comfortable with manual Backup/restore, try the Migrate option under the File menu.
How do you install the programs on the new computer?
You should be able to download them from your Dashboard in your My Proseries Account
Signing in to My Account for ProSeries
The PCmover software I mentioned before can transfer your programs from your previous computer and index them in the windows registry (not sure I used the right words there) without having to go back and reinstall everything one by one.
