how can i update a client's bank information

Client gave me the wrong bank information and didn't realize it until they received a CP53E letter.

Can i update the account information via pro series basic or do they need to create an online account.

Client is elderly and doesn't want to create the account.

Worse case, they might have to wait six weeks for a paper check

if they don't want to do an online account then they will have to wait the 6 weeks. You should put the correct bank info in their file or update the account number so when you do the 2026 return you don't forget to correct he account

Your choices are to either help them create an online account or have them wait for the paper check to arrive

At this point,  I'd call their bluff and see if they're paying 7% interest from April 15 by delaying the paper check until after May 30.

Back before I sold my client list(my final solo year was 2021 tax returns) I still sent paper copies to clients for signatures.

I edited the instructions to ALWAYS ask for confirmation of the bank accounts. If we had one in the system it appeared and they could simply CHECK it off as Confirmed. If we had none, the Account Numbers would be blank to indicate that we had none.
