It's taking a long time to get wife a SSN. They live abroad. Last year I filed him MFS because she was NRA and asked him to mail his return. This year they have a child. I should still file him MFS with a dependent child?

MFS is okay w/ dependent is fine... I'd probably file single w/ dependent and then amend the returns when she gets her SSN.
If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

Does the child qualify for a SSN? Applied for one? Already have one?
