"EF Accepted" & Info "doesn't match our records"

ProSeries 2024 Form 1040 with refund due shows "EF Accepted" on 4/10/25 with a submission ID.

IRS.gov "refund status" page shows Information "doesn't match our records."

Client called IRS; they have no record of the 2024 Form 1040 being filed but they see the 2025.

Client probably needs to mail it, right?

Anyone seen this before?

If mailed, make sure there is a cover letter reiterating the submission number and phone call.

that’s in case they find it, their records won’t get more messed up thinking it’s filed twice!

When a return gets pulled into ID Verification or the errors department, when you call they wont show record of it.

Has the client created an IRS online account to see if there are any notices available?

Have YOU called the Practitioner Hotline to see if they can tell you what happened?  Get an signed 8821 in hand before calling.

Assuming the client is relatively intelligent; wouldn't the IRS have told the client if there was some notice for 2024 during their telephone call?

Not in my experience, the phone reps that customers call have very little access to anything useful.  Calling PPS would be a better option, they can see more on their end.
