Amended return: Where can I find a copy of the original return that I previously filed?

Hi there,

I accidentally filed the state return. I need to amend it now.

However, I was not sure what numbers are in the original return.

Where can I find the original return filed?

Thanks.

I’ve always made a duplicate copy of the original client file before making changes and amending the return…. I’m assuming you did not do that and will have to back into it…

try making a duplicate copy… file save as (new file name)… view the 1040 x to confirm the changes you made…. Undo the changes and uncheck the 1040x and save… this should put your federal return back to what you had before amending….

it’s probable that your state return has been restored, but to be sure, I would open the state return and “file… remove this state return’.  Then You should now be able to create a new state return with the original amount based on the restored federal return.

If at first you don’t succeed…..find a workaround

if you haven't amended yet, then the figures you see should be the originals.

Thank you for the suggestions.

Now I have to rely on the payment which will be taken out on 4/15 to determine what the original numbers were filed.

Lesson learned.

I think I must have done something wrong. The originals right now doesn't look like the original.
