ProSeries Professional 2026. Form 172 shows 'not ready for filing' on 3 NOL clients (farm/non-farm).
Already ran full updates, checked form-status.app.intuit.com, and did state reinstall. Need urgent fix or workaround for tax season.
Affects multiple clients, urgent for filing/mail deadlines, already followed all update/troubleshooting steps.
No your right! I'm mean 2026 tax year, 2025 ProSeries.
I checked the date and it's moving back like they did with the NY Forms. It was 2/4 then moved back to 2/18, and then 2/25 and now it was 3/5 or something like.
I think it's a fix that needs to happen on the ProSeries side. Let's go!!!

This is off topic, but I find that message is interesting.
I use ProSeries Basic, and a Moderator specifically told us that Form 172 will be part of Basic. However, I get the message that it is not available in Basic. The fact Professional's message is different and says "not ready for filing" seems to indicate the Moderator may be wrong about it being available in Basic.

It’s ridiculous that Form 172 isn’t ready especially with farm returns due 3/2/26!
Historically, Intuit hates farmers. In my opinion, if you have farmers, you should either (a) have them make regular Estimated Tax payments to avoid the March 1st rule, or (b) use non-Intuit software.
I hear you... do you have any idea when it is scheduled to be released?
Great Customer Service!!!!!! Unacceptable
I am still keeping the faith for March 4.🤔 I would probably be more stressed but then I see something from my "favorites" and I think just hang in there....this 2 shall pass. Who knows maybe 172 and 5695 will both be ready March 4.
I agree, can Intuit be a better partner for farmers? We need to file by deadlines, which is different than other vocations. HELP
"We need to file by deadlines, which is different than other vocations"
But isn't that a choice rather than a requirement? Tax season keeps on getting shorter and shorter. Maybe some thought should go into having clients pay estimates rather than being put into a bind by the IRS and software companies.
Hopefully we are still on for WEDNESDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Clients go elsewhere.
Status of Form 172?
ProSeries Tax Form Availability finally says that Form 172 is ready for print and e-file, I have installed the updates but the final review says Form 172 Part 1 is not finalized.
Unfortunately it seems that Intuit has no plans on upgrading [removed]. These [removed] mgmt clowns laugh while they watch their $2/hour customer service copy and paste database support. Time to all switch. [removed]
Any updates on Form 172 Part I ?
I called Intuit yesterday, actually twice, and was told that it was a mistake that it said the Form 172 was ready. I was "assured" Form 172 will be supported in BasicProSeries and the expected release date is March 6. So once again, we wait.
Just ran today's update thinking that 172 would be finalized. It's not. WTF. This is unbelievable. Come on Intuit. Get your sh*t together.
Hi @twainhartetaxman Please make sure you are using the most updated version of ProSeries.
Try updating and retransmitting as Form 172 shows it is available for eFile.
If you have any issues please contact support as they are best equipped to assist in this situation, they'll be able to remote in and get a file.
I sure hope so, I don't understand why "Basic" Proseries would exclude the NOL form... Small farmers & businesses are unfortunately in the red this past year.
Maybe you didn't see my first sentence that I just ran today's update. Still shows an error for Form 172. I have had several returns ready to go for over a month. I will probably lose a few clients because of this. What is the big delay in finalizing a form?
@twainhartetaxman What was the error message? Can you take a screenshot? Please also contact ProSeries support as they are best equipped to assist in this situation, they'll be able to remote in and get a file.
It's not just her. My software show it's ready to use and efile after updating. When I am in the return and click Where do i file and put in 172, 3 forms are there to select and they say that form 172 is not part of PS Basic and must use IRS.gov and pdf file attached it to the return. If it truly is done, someone did not switch it on for us to use. This absolutely needs to be part of the software Pro and Basic as we pay for the programs to do the work. I hope it's only a glitch for PS Basic as we were told it would be available like it was last year.
I can't load a photo into the file to show you the message.
I download and installed the latest update and it says Form 172 is final and ready to e-file. However, when I run a client’s final review I receive the following error message.
“ProSeries Error Report - Form 172 Part I: _ This form was not finalized by the taxing authority in time to be included in this release of ProSeries. Please update ProSeries to ensure that you have the most current forms installed.”
So, I ran Refresh Updates, which reinstalled all the updates. Same error, “Form 172 Part I: _ This form was not finalized by the taxing authority in time to be included in this release of ProSeries. Please update ProSeries to ensure that you have the most current forms installed.”
I just got another update from Intuit and now it appears that form 172 is alive and ready for use in my PS Basic. Have to check it out for full usage but praying is working as expected.
Thanks Intuit. It was worth the wait now that it's done!
Hi @kwperry Thank you for letting us know. We were able to duplicate the error. This is being looked into.
did you see the update message at that top right corner where the red dot shows? that's what I updated and it worked. Only did not know that part II does not update from prior years 😞
Same here.
Where do I find the update message? (where is the red dot?) Do I find it from the HomeBase view or from inside the clients tax return? Even if it's not perfect, I'd rather efile it and update anything that needs to be updated later. Please give some additional info on that update message. I would like to try to see if it works. Thanks.
It is 3/4/2026 at 4pm pacific time. Just got off the phone with Intuit support. I was told form 172 will now not be finalized until the end of next week.
Unbelievable!!
Try logging out and back in to the software. That's when it occurred for me after I come home from drop offs and pickups.
Please read the post clearly before answering! After updating 100x it still says "form not final".
Horrible!!
I'm going to probably lose at least two clients because of this. They're pissed. And so am I.
People need their REFUNDS!!!!!!
Not sure why mine updated and others are not?
Because that's the logical thing to do. I'm sure all their support is outsourced. Ever speak to one of their reps? She had no idea what I was taking about. Don't really want to jump ship and have to input all the info and learn the program, but might have to next year. Beginning of the year NYS was delayed for printing but it was ready for efile. So, I wasn't able to have e-signature for federal and state. Only able to do federal signatures. So I had to either wait for the state to finalize their forms (a week later) or send signatures for federal and send again for state and waste an extra e-signature for each return.
BACK TO MY ANSWER AND CONCERN. IN TY 2024 - FORM 172 PRINTED WITH THE PROGRAM.
SINCE MINE DID LOAD FOR TY 2025 WHILE THE REST OF YOU ARE WAITING FOR IT TO DOWNLOAD, I JUST WANT TO EXPLAIN WHAT I AM SEEING.
FORM 172 PAGE ONE IS FOUND BY GOING INTO "WHERE DO I ENTER" AND PUTTING IN 172. BOTH PAGES ARE THERE TO CLICK ON BUT ONLY PAGE 1 (PART 1) CONTAINS THE INFO. YOU MUST MANUALLY LOAD PART 2 WHICH IS A PAIN BUT NEEDED TO DO THAT IN 2024 AND I MISSED THAT LAST YEAR SINCE IT DID THE AUTO LOAD OF FORM 172. ALSO WHEN YOU MAKE A PDF COPY TO REVIEW THE FILE PRIOR TO PRINTING IT WILL NOT SHOW FORM 172 GOING TO THE IRS. AS IN THEIR NOTES, YOU MUST MAKE A PDF FILE AND ATTACHED IT TO THE RETURN FOR THE IRS TO SEE IT. AGAIN..THIS IS FROM MY EXPERIENCE SO FAR. IN 2024 IT AUTOMATICALLY LOADED THE FORM INTO THE E-FILE. JUST SO YOU KNOW IT'S STILL NOT AS GREAT AS LAST YEAR DUE TO THE MANUAL UPLOAD TO A PDF FILE.
