Question

What do you do if the taxpayer's driver's license is expired? Do you just put that they don't have one so that the return e-files without an error?

That's what I have done as long as the state allows it.

Many  people have expired licenses because the Motor Vehicle Departments closed due to COVID 19 and they can't renew them. MD says your license is good for 60 after the Governor lifts the state of emergency (an unknown date at this point). North Carolina gave an extension, too per one of my NC clients.

The more I know the more I don’t know.
