What date of sale are you using for multiple transactions being reported as a group on 1099-B?

Hi-

A bit confused with the instructions on how "not to use a date of sale various" on the 1099-B reporting multiple sales (wash sales included), without showing a diagnostic error.  Planning to attach a PDF of the Brokerage statement.

Ive just been choosing a date from one of the sales in the list...we shouldn't need to enter the date at all, its a program shortfall, in prior years we could just choose Long or Short.
