RDP Couple in California: How to generate TWO Forms 8958

My clients are Registered Domestic Partners in California.  I've been studying the ProSeries discussions about this over and over again, but I still can't get through the process.

I entered everything into one MFJ federal return. I checked NO for electronic filing. Then I let that info flow through to the California state return, where they will file as MFJ-RDP.

Then back to the federal return. I understand they will eventually file SINGLE for federal.

But first I checked MFS, so I could properly split their income, as required by our Community Property rules.

I generated a Form 8958 and split the TP's income into two parts.

But now: I believe I need ANOTHER Form 8958, to split her partner's income.  RIGHT?

I cannot figure out how to make ProSeries Basic generate a second 8958.

What am I missing?

Thank you!

You only use one 8958 in a single ProSeries file.  I assume you are preparing: CA return MFJ. Federal mock return MFJ along with  actual Federal for each as single.

The mock federal is only used to prepare the CA MFJ. Once the CA return is correct, the federal mock has no more value and no additional forms needed - including 8958 - not needed. A joint return reports all income, combined for the CA.

The actual federal return for each single contains just the 8958 for that person.
