Question

ProSeries Error? MI is sending letters and adjusting MI retirement death benefits. There is no error on PS & its auto not taxed. Upset clients have letters correcting.

A client with a benefit from a nephew now owes more and is getting penalized. Her pension was not selected as Spouse but ProSeries gave a refund like she was one. MI letter corrected this and she is upset it wasn't caught.

Maybe a ProSeries error but you are the Preparer and did not catch it.

    When the software screws up and the preparer doesn't catch it, the problem falls into the lap of the preparer.  They owed the tax whether the return was done correctly or not, but most preparers will cover the penalties and interest.  Lesson learned - the software helps a preparer, but the preparer still has to review the return to make sure the software knows what it is doing.
