Question

New York City resident tax return

I have a return I've prepared for a resident of NYC, who derives all his income from NYC sources.  In past years that's handled with the State return.  This is my first year using pro series, and I am getting an error coming from a form  1127 which is for non residents and does not apply to his return..  I can't clear this error.  Anybody know the solution to this?

@Jim Olivo Thank you for posting on the Community. Would you happen to be able to provide more information about the error code you are seeing?

Katie. Running final review the NYC return throws a need to put an x in a check box on the NYC 1127 indicating that the non resident works for a city agency. As I looked through the return the software does not pay attention to the indicator that the person is a resident. It looks like when the taxpayer is a resident with City income the State return handles the city filing. I need this verified so the two clients I have with this situation are considered filed at the City by their Stste filing.

NYC Residents do not file the 1127.

Their NYC tax is computed in the NY return. Make sure it is. Look at the completed return. In Lacerte you have to indicate they are a NYC resident by checking a box somewhere or NYC tax won't calculate. (Lesson learned the hard way years ago.)

The more I know the more I don’t know.
