Question

I input a 1099-R for an IRA the taxable amount is different from the total distribution, but on the 1040 it's only using the total distribution amount and not the taxable amount. I tried to contact intuit for 2 days and I've been hung up on twice

You'll probably need to input the IRA basis to get the software to pickup the taxable  amount.  Should be an IRA Basis link button n the 1099R worksheet somewhere

"the taxable amount is different from the total distribution"

Which type of IRA account?

Which boxes have which codes?

How old is the account owner?

Is there basis in that account?

Was this a qualified coronavirus distribution or regular?

Did you look to see if the 1099-R resulted in needing the Form 8606?
