Question

I have a client who did not purchase health insurance for the first 5 months of 2021. How do I report that on form 1040? The return rejects otherwise.

there is no more penalty.. where you are you trying to input it.  or are you working on a 1095-A? if so put zeroes for those months to see if that clears the error.

Thank you for your response.  My client does not have health insurance for the first 5 months of 2021.  There is no 1095A to input. Any help you can provide is greatly appreicated.

The error message keeps coming back as below:

Return Rejected                                                                    02/12/2022

Code:            F8962-070

Form:             0(00)                                                                   Form Copy:

Line #:

Description:   (/efile:Return/efile:ReturnData/efile:IRS1040)

Error Detail:

The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return.

Error Resolution:

This return rejected due to Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit missing from the return. In order to complete Form 8962, you should have received Form 1095-A Health Insurance Marketplace Statement with relevant information on the insurance that you purchased in the marketplace.

The ACA Marketplace providers have until 1/31/22 provide the 1095-A to taxpayers. For more information visit https://www.irs.gov/affordable-care-act/individuals-andfamilies/health-insurance-marketplace-statements.

Did they purchase health insurance through the Market Place for the months they did have insurance? If yes, then there will be a 1095-A issued to them.
