If you are selling a principal residence.... go to the Home Sale Worksheet....and follow the instructions... it will populate the Sch D with all the pertinent information and indicate the exemption for principal home sale if  it qualifies.

If it's for timber, land, etc...just click on Sch D, and manually input the amounts of sale, cost basis, date of sale, date of acquisition. It will handle accordingly also there.
